Human resources are one of an organization's most significant assets. Due to strong human resource job performance, every organization may expect to be at the top of its game if they utilise their human resources effectively and efficiently. However, there have been occasions where workplaces have lacked occupational health and safety standards, exposing employees to a variety of health risks. The purpose of this study was to assess the health and safety measures and outline various safety hazards staff are exposed to at the Tamale west hospital. This was a cross-sectional study conducted among 117 healthcare professionals in Tamale west hospital who were selected using stratified and simple random sampling techniques. Data collection tools such as questionnaire, personal observation and secondary sources were used to obtain information from the respondents. Data was analysed descriptively in forms of charts and tables using SPSS version 25. The findings showed that, all the staff were knowledge about what occupational health and safety entailed, the hazards they face during the performance of their duties and the risk of contracting an infection or injury at the work place. However, majority don’t always use the Personal Protective Equipment available. Majority of the working force who responded were more exposed to radiations, (ionizing agents) hypodermic needles, dust, stench, cold from the environment, human blood and body fluids. Additionally, ionizing agent e.g. X-ray, radon, the use of hypodermic needles, exposure to the dusty environment, stench, cold, and the exposure to micro-organisms were perceived as more threatening at the workplace. The study concluded that, there was low compliance with PPEs among the professionals despite their frequent exposure to both ionizing and non-ionizing radiations. Management should make PPEs readily available at all times to ensure strict compliance. Staff should be educated on occupational health and safety practices at workplace.
